Kudos for SPDF at Expo 2020

It is not only in the high seas that its naval wing, the Seychelles Coast Guards (SCG), is winning the war against Somali piracy, the country’s defence forces is also at the forefront of the country’s search for technological excellence. The position of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) as a local leader in cutting-edge technology was well exhibited at the Seychelles Expo 2020 being held at the International Conference Centre.
The SPDF stand at this technological fair held under the theme Touch The Future was special in two ways. Firstly, the video it was running showed that the country’s defence forces is one of the organizations in the country which is making the most intelligent use of technology by combining latest technological feats with the country’s human potential.
For instance, in the video one could see a sniper using a high-precision rifle to protect a personality. This rifle makes use of latest technological advances.
The same video, which featured members of the Barbarons-based VIP-Protection unit, or Commandos, also revealed a secret weapon of SPDF and this is the camaraderie existing between officers and rank and file members of the force. Pictures of the Commanding Officer commending a private for excelling in training exercises and interviews of Privates and Lance-Corporals show that SPDF is an organization which really draws its strength from its human resources. Through its stand SPDF has showed that its success is based on applying the human-centred development concept.
It is Seychellois who by embracing technology will Touch the Future and go on Winning for Seychelles.
The SPDF stand was a reminder that most technologies are firstly put to military uses before finding their way into wider society. Kudos to SPDF for showing to the Seychellois public that military success derives from an intelligent combination of technology and human prowess.
A special mention also goes to the exhibit of the University of Seychelles. Well done!
