A victory for the youths of our country

With the NDEA apprehending this young and beautiful woman of Belgian origin with drugs, meant the NDEA has come to the rescue of some of our very own weak youths, which provides an available market for the traffickers.

The sophisticated drug smuggling operation that was conducted across three continents and several countries was smashed during an early morning sting operation conducted by the NDEA on 1st April 2010.
The intelligence led operation leading to the arrests and seizure had been in place for some time.
Natasha Breugelmans arrived in Seychelles on March 28, 2010 on board a Kenyan Airways flight carrying more than two million rupees worth of Heroin which she had concealed in her body. On arrival in Seychelles she was taken to an accommodation address in the Anse Aux Pins area where she met with her handlers and later handed over the drugs to them.
The operation to intercept the consignment occurred the day after Breugelmans had delivered her consignment of drugs to a number of local drug traffickers. During the course of the operation a total of four persons were arrested, all of whom were subsequently charged before the Supreme Court.
In addition to the discovery and subsequent seizure of the drugs the NDEA operation also uncovered hundreds of thousands of cash in a number of different denominations including US dollars, Euro and Seychelles Rupees. All of the indications are that this was a major drug smuggling ring with links to international drug traffickers.
It is believed that the drug originated along the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan, eventually finding its way to Kenya and ultimately to its final destination in Seychelles.
The NDEA team worked closely with their international counterparts in the fight against the drug barons who continue to target the local market with heroin and cannabis that is produced in some of the main narcotic markets of the world.
The drugs are sourced by local traffickers and smuggled into the country using sophisticated routes and rouses to defeat the efforts of law enforcement agencies who are engaged in a constant battle against the smugglers.
The sentence imposed in this case is a clear signal that the activities of international drug smugglers using Seychelles as a base to conduct their illegal activities will not be tolerated and if caught can expect to spend a lengthy period in prison.
