Youngsters shine in talent show

Lyana Quatre, Jean Christophe Legros, the Metanoia group and Roland Andre emerged top in their respective categories of the third Sesel i annan talan singing contest organised by the Jj Spirit Foundation.

Lyana Quatre, winner of the 12-17 years old categoryThey received their prizes - a laptop and R17,000 - from the patron of the foundation, President James Michel, in the presence of several ministers, executive director of the foundation Eddie Charles, other members and a large crowd of spectators.

The contest, which was divided in four categories - 12 to 17 years old, 18 to 35 years old, duo or group and professionals - was held at the International Conference Centre on Saturday.

Young Lyana was the star of the first category with Alicia Keys’ Try sleeping with a broken heart. In second place was Tania Jeremie who interpreted the song Save the best for last by Vanessa William.

Third place winner in this category was Nandita Nair who sang Mercy on me while Keshia Boniface settled for fourth place with You lost me. Both songs are by famous American artist Christina Aguilera.

The second category was won by Jean-Christophe Legros whoJean-Christophe Legros, winner of the 18-35 years old category interpreted Elton John’s Can you feel the love tonight.
Second place winner was Daryl Alcindor with James Blunt’s Carry you home followed by Angele Savy with the oldie but goodie What’s going on from 4 Non Blondes.

Trevor Delcy was positioned fourth in this category with his interpretation of Jamie Fox’s Fall for your type which also features Drake.

In the duo and group category, the Metanoia group won first prize with the song entitled Nothing else matters by American heavy metal band Metallica.

 

Paolo Bonne and Nathifa Molle performed Rihanna’s Redemption song and came out in second place while Sound Emotions settled in third place with the song To love a woman by Lionel Richie and Enrique Iglesias.

The young boys and girls forming the group Odd Stars came out in fourth place with a French song Ni Devan Ni Derrière by Meddy Gerville.

Roland Andre was the winner in the fourth category for Professionals with Westlife’s Flying without wings, followed by John Paul with Kassav’s Zouk la se sel Medikaman Nou Ni.Metanoia, winner in the duo/group category

Darrel Robert came out third with the French song L’encre de tes yeux by Francis Cabrel. Judith Hoareau came out fourth with Celine Dion’s Rêve de toujours.

The second place winners in all categories won R12,000 and one year training at the music conservatoire while third place winners won R8000 and a music tuition. The fourth place contestants each won R4000.

All those who took part in the competition received a certificate, and a host of small gifts.

Apart from these young talents, the audience enjoyed performances from young artists and past winners of the contest such as Jude Beaudoin and Colin Aglae, dance group Youngsters and YRoland Andre, winner in the Professionals categoryannick Savy’s Laviktwar pour Sesel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chicco, Ruben, Dj Junior and members of the Dezil group also performed during the show.

The seven members of the jury comprised performing and recording artists, radio producers, music teachers and pianist.

During the event, the foundation handed over a cheque for R100,000 collected during last year’s show towards the Indian Ocean Island Games. The cheque was presented to Games commissioner Eric Arnephy.

This year the money collected during the show will help fund the medical treatment of a youth who was involved in an accident in January.
